Thlllllurrrrrrp!!!!!

See that *pointing up at the title*? That's the sound most of my meals are making at the moment. I just had gum surgery thanks to periodontal disease,* and for the next week I can basically eat anything I can suck through a straw. That's it. Needless to say, my dinner options are somewhat limited, and I'm fairly certain I can't liquefy a Reese's peanut butter cup so I'm in a bit of a quandary. I repeat this loveliness in two weeks for the left side of my mouth (right now only the right side has been assaulted).

Oh, and I can't have spicy foods either, which I didn't know beforehand, so now I get to return the bottle of Spicy V8 that was going to help me keep my sanity.

Adding insult to injury, I feel like I've been kicked in the jaw by an exceptionally angry horse.

On the plus side, I can have all the SlimFast I want! Uhm... yay? More like ick. But at least it keeps the calories going in. I see smoothies in my future.

Charlotte the School Chicken is now housed inside the school office after everyone has left campus for the day. She was put in her coop one night and a raccoon almost got her (he did get a few of the feathers off once side of her head, the poor baby), and the school administration felt it was in her best interests to become an even more domesticated chicken than she was already.

She is also now laying eggs, much to the excitement of the students and the slight alarm of the staff (who I can only assume are envisioning small children finding random eggs and deciding to chuck said potential projectiles at other, much less alert small children).

---------------------

Other than that, not much is up at the moment. I'm on light activity right now, but I've downloaded some MP3s with Tabata intervals, and once I have the go ahead to start pounding pavement again I've already set up playlists with two rounds of Tabatas (4 minutes each) , so I'll be ready. That is, if my knees agree. We'll see how it goes.

*Usually I don't discuss my ex, but I will say that his theory on dentistry was "You're too sheltered. Nobody keeps all their teeth, don't be such a baby!" so dentist visits for any of us weren't high on his priority list -- it, uh, wasn't a good situation... to put it mildly.

you so can liquify a Reeses peanut butter cup!! Put it in a blender and blend until it's all fine. Then add some form of liquid to it. Like ice cream. Or a protein shake. Your slimfast, yeah, add the grounded candy to your shake!!!!!

Sorry to hear of your surgery. I'm supposed to have something done to one of my gums one of these days and I keep procrastinating. But hey, it's a good way to lose weight, anyway! Unless you liquefy the Reeses... :-) Feel better!

Oh! Oh! I was all set to comment when I saw FB idea to liquify PB cups! I want to do it!

FB, well that is a thought LOL. My thing with Reese's though is in large part the "mouthfeel" when you bite through the chocolate and your teeth hit the peanut butter... mmmmm. And "biting" is on my list of stuff I can't do. ARRRGH!!

Maui, thanks :) And having this done isn't fun, but I figure I'm better off getting it over with.

Sara, ROFL! You crack me up.

Smoothies are a good option, why can't you have spicy stuff? Although why anyone would voluntarily drink V8 is beyond me.

We puree food for the people at work all the time so I know you -can- liquify most foods, although from experience pureed pizza kinda looks like vomit so maybe sticking to smoothies is a good plan.

Ninja, I think it's because "spicy" can't be realistically calibrated, and things that are higher on the spicy scale can actually cause tissue/ skin irritation. If you've ever seen Man vs. Food when Adam is trying one of the spicy food challenges -- especially one that involves ghost chilis -- that can offer a good visual.

I had a mango/ peach smoothie yesterday and it didn't suck. Today I think I'll go with mango/banana. Also, I'm able to incorporate some "mushy" foods now and had a great sweet potato mash. Hopefully I can use this to add to my recipe bank.

Sorry you've had to have surgery due to forced lack of dental visits while you were with your ex. I feel your pain. Truly. In the seven years since leaving my ex, I have had one tooth die, fall apart, and the root surgically removed; four crowns; two root canals on the SAME tooth within a week of each other; several fillings; am looking forward to another SIX crowns; and I, too, found out that I now have periodontal disease. Prior to meeting my ex, I had a couple fillings and my gums and enamel were in excellent shape. Will the effects of the abuse never end?

Greek yogurt has twice the protein of regular yogurt, so try putting that stuff in your smoothies. And I have found that Slim Fast really isn't that bad if you blend a couple scoops of ice cream into it.

You know I was kidding about the ice cream, right? :)

LMAO on the Slimfast + ice cream! Yeah, that'd do it for sure. Figured you were kidding ;) As for the Greek yogurt, I'm already there. My smoothies include 4 oz. each of peach, mango, vanilla bean Greek yogurt, and nonfat milk (I just put the blender container on the food scale to weigh the ingredients out -- thank you Alton Brown!), along with 1/2 a large-ish banana. The only problem I'm having smoothie-wise is getting enough for myself because the kids keep hijacking them!

As for the after-effects, I don't think they truly end; I know I'm a different person than I used to be, and there are some things about me that will never be the same. I will say, though, that I am seeing the worst of my mental/ PTSDesque effects are mitigated as time passes. Last night I got triggered by something and although it wasn't a bunch of fun, when I looked back at the situation it was kind of good to realize how long it had been since I'd had that level of freakout, yanno?

I figure it'll all come out in the wash, in some way or other :)

*Edited to fix typos -- yes I am that OCD ;)

Owie - gum surgery is so not fun. It's even less fun when the scale is insulting. I say drop kick the darned thing off the back porch!

Did they pack your mouth with the silly putty stuff? When I had gum grafts done, that putty was the most annoying, yet at the same time helpful glob of stuff in the world. Hope you heal quickly!

The really bad part? I feel guilty if I eat real food in front of her. The puppy dog eyes she gives me just before the daggers of death don't make it any better ;)

Well, there is always a squirt of chocolate syrup if you get desperate! (Just kidding) Sorry you had to have this done, and even more sorry you have to do it again!

InWeighOverMyHead said...

ouch! I hope you recover soon! Sadly, I am sure I would figure out how to liquify a Reeses. lol

Angela, no silly putty packing with this procedure although I've had it before, and I completely understand what you're saying about it, LOL. Thanks for the well-wishes :)

Choreboy, you've actually been very well behaved and you know it :) Besides, when all else fails I have my ice cream, and that goes a long way toward mitigating my current suffering.

Diane, thanks! And well, there's always room for a little chocolate. Moderation is awesome *grin*

Lisa, LOL! Well, I've got some recipes for chocolate and peanut butter smoothies if I get truly desperate ;)
