Obsessed

Not with my weight. With the thermometer.

And no, I'm not trying to conceive (perish the thought -- quite the opposite!!). Instead, I'm sick, so I'm obsessively checking my temperature to see if I have a fever. When I was little, a fever was the gold standard for illness in our house. You feel like crap? Let's see if you have a fever. If you don't have a fever then you're not really sick. It's just allergies. Off to school with you, here's your box of tissues!!

Since that time I've learned that, lo and behold, you can be sick without running a fever. And as an adult, that's how most of my illnesses tend to run. I can feel like I've been run over by a bulldozer, and the thermometer will cheerfully report 98.6, with maybe a 98.7 spike mid-afternoon.

Then again, it might be that my thermometer has issues... because according to it, I've been dead for an hour.

Ugh. Hope you feel better. There's definitely something going around - I've been surrounded by sickness for days!

Oh, you poor thing. That stinks. I hope you feel better soon. I almost never get fever either!

Choreboy, I did so move. I had to take the kids to school because SOMEONE was sleeping (in his defense, he has a close to work tonight so that's why I didn't whine him awake).

Jenn, thank you! Yeah, there's some ick going around. And Lesley, I'm glad I'm not the only one like this -- it's just weird and annoying LOL.

Ok. Take some warm brown liquor substance, add honey and lemon. Two things will happen. The temprature on the thermometer will rise and you'll not care about being ill.

Win-Win!

Good thing I didn't live in your house. I don't externalize illnesses. My normal temp is 97.4 and rarely goes up.

Hope you are feeling better.

My normal temperature seems to be 96.8 so even when I DID have a temperature, my parents wouldn't let me stay home from school because 98.6 is perfectly normal for most people. It still frustrates me today to take my temperature when I'm feeling crappy and seeing it under 97.

Thanks, TaDa, Lisa, and Amanda -- I do feel better now. Mostly. Except when I'm finally running through the rest of my tissues because the kids keep letting the cats out here.

Yes, I'm allergic to my pets. Doesn't stop me. I realize this marks me as clearly insane.

JAFG, sounds good! Heh heh heh... I'll mark that down in my Home Remedies book ;)

Parker, I'm starting to think my normal temperature is 97.9, because that's what it registers more often than not. Seems like it only gets up to 98.6 sometime around mid-afternoon, if at all.

Heidi, you would have gone crazy in my parents' house growing up. Luckily, my mother has mellowed on this over time. I think it happened about when we had finally all graduated...
